Essay that let me return to my home NU
The direction I lead lies within investing my energy into environments where it's leveraged to reach its highest dimension of scale, which now I know to be Northeastern.
The environment I was born into, characterized by complete autonomy, required that I take the initiative to lead the change I envisioned to create. To thrive in this positioning, I began to see the answer be the question. Questioning to understand the models and heuristics that people operate inside, questioning to challenge their efficiency, and questioning to exercise the mental structure that allows my mind to create direction within an undefined path. An early product of my incurable curiosity is a mental elasticity to distill valuable direction within undefined paths.
The movement of my direction has led me to create two consumer tech apps used by thousands of students in Boston, build my Forward Deployed Engineering company for enterprises in the Middle East, Digital Impact, which made $162,809 in revenue in two months, and develop my real estate tokenization venture in the Middle East, Muluk Protocols, which raised $100,000 and secured partnerships with the largest market makers in the world. These serve as preliminary signals of what happens when my structure of thinking arrives in different worlds.
At Digital Impact, when I integrate applied AI into enterprises, I model the parameters of tasks so that in turn they can be executed automatically. By personally shifting the balance of labor within companies from less executional work to more directional work, I see how abundant execution is becoming, leaving directional thinking increasingly scarce. My ventures validated questioning as valuable, but now I see it as necessary as AI diffuses into the executional roles. To continue to learn and grow in a way that compounds, I must be in an environment that recognizes these core principles of continuous learning.
As I read President Aoun's Robot-Proof, the words hug my heart, as I feel like I am rereading the harmonious concepts that lie within my notes app or a transcript of me striving to bring understanding to my friends & family. In President Aoun's model for Northeastern, he has institutionalized the principles of learning that have been fundamental to how I've created value independently.
Aoun's writing about mental elasticity puts language to the structure I have developed through continuous questioning. The environments around me can change, but the mental structure that allows me to question, adapt, and create direction can continue to create value within them. His distinction between divergent and convergent thinking makes the importance of the distinction between them visible. As machines increasingly converge on and execute what is known, my mission must be to strengthen my ability to create what AI cannot. I have developed divergent thinking through the process Aoun describes as experiential learning, a loop of entering an unfamiliar environment, testing a direction, evaluating what reality returns, and allowing the learned knowledge to compound into the next path.
I understand that I cannot compound this process independently. Other people expose my thinking to experiences and models I cannot alone create, challenging not only what I understand but how I understand.
The direction I lead next points toward Northeastern— not as a change in direction, but as a return to an environment that embodies the same principles of questioning that have enabled me to lead valuable ventures, validating both the previous value within questioning and, more importantly, its future necessity within a community that elevates what we could previously do independently.
